In the landscape of children’s entertainment, few series have left such a lasting and significant imprint as Barbapapa. Born in Paris the 1970s from the creative minds of the couple Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, Barbapapa represents more than just a cultural phenomenon, but also a lesson in creativity and innovation.
Gentle, free and joyful characters with round shapes and pop colors, forerunners of effective messages even for new generations: family, ecology, urbanism and even gender equality as early as the 1970s.
A brand new series has been launched in 2019 written and brought to life by Alice Taylor & Thomas Taylor and produced by Normaal Animations (52×11’). The series is available on Nick Junior in over 100 territories, on major free broadcasters (TF1, Rai, RTS,YLE, Téléquebec…) as well as on platforms like AMAZON PRIME VIDEO* (*depending on territories) to federate around the positive values : sharing, optimism, creativity and nature protection. The second new season is already broadcasted with success on TF1 in France and on Nick Junior global.
The enduring success of Barbapapa is also an example of effective branding. The series has created a strong and recognizable brand that has maintained its relevance across generations.
In France, while the long-standing publishing partner, Les Livres du Dragon d’Or, continues its collaboration, we are excited to welcome new partners like La Librairie Des Ecoles, supporting children’s development with educational workbooks. The 360° collaboration with la Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais, the Louvre and the publisher Les Livres du Dragon d’Or to initiate children with art is a success with an international resonance.
In the toy sector, Mekk is developing wooden toys, Cijep introduces a new range of plush toys, decoration and car accessories. Nathan, new partner, offers two puzzles. Other categories are also renewing their commitment to the brand with original collections. Pero presents a high-end/luxury textile line for women and children, made from cotton, silk, and upcycled materials. Manucurist caters to the entire family with nail polish for both children and parents. Embracing Barbapapà’s playful spirit, Happy Bulle provides customizable jewellery with over 300 variations, fostering strong intergenerational connections. In Italy partners like Modecor, Madhouse, Dynit… have joined the family.
Barbapapà is far more than an animated series; it’s an ever-evolving universe that continues to enchant and innovate while staying true to its roots.
As the brand approaches its 55th anniversary in 2025, it’s gearing up for a celebration to remember.
