HELLO KITTY MAKES HER HOLLYWOOD DEBUT

Sanrio is bringing Hello Kitty to the big screen for the first time with a feature film developed by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema. The project marks a strategic milestone in the evolution of the property, expanding from a global licensing icon into the cinematic entertainment space.

The film, currently scheduled for release on July 21, 2028, represents the first Hollywood adaptation dedicated to the brand and will be distributed internationally by Warner Bros. Pictures. The initiative confirms the growing convergence between licensing and the film industry, with major global IPs increasingly adopting cross-platform development models.

Hello Kitty’s entry into the international blockbuster circuit further strengthens the brand’s positioning as a global lifestyle asset, already established for decades across categories such as fashion, toys, and consumer products. The project is part of Sanrio’s broader strategy to expand its IP ecosystem on a worldwide scale.

The move highlights the rising importance of character-based IPs in the entertainment market, where brand value extends beyond traditional licensing into film, streaming, and experiential content.
