Starbright Licensing joins the international network of Spiralcute International as the Italian licensing agent for three fast-growing character brands: Chiikawa, Mofusand and Koupen Chan.
Three properties created by Japanese artists, each with highly engaged fan communities and a growing international presence across content, consumer products, collaborations, retail and experiences.
Chiikawa, created by illustrator Nagano, has evolved from a successful manga into a cultural phenomenon, combining cuteness, humour, adventure and emotional depth. The brand’s first feature film, Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, debuted at No. 1 in July 2026.
Mofusand, created by illustrator Juno, puts a playful spin on the world of cats through a soft, sophisticated visual style and instantly recognisable, highly shareable humour.
Koupen Chan, created by artist Rurutea, is an adorable emperor penguin who first gained popularity on social media through messages of encouragement and positivity celebrating life’s small everyday victories.
In Italy, Starbright Licensing will lead the development of the licensing programmes for the three properties, identifying partners and opportunities aligned with their positioning and long-term growth.
“The new additions to our portfolio confirm our commitment to offering our partners solid and innovative licensing opportunities, capable of generating long-term value,” said Giada Paterlini, CEO of Starbright Licensing.
Kate Schlomann, EVP, Business Development & Operations at Spiralcute International, added: “We are delighted to welcome Starbright Licensing to our growing international network. Their deep understanding of the Italian licensing landscape makes them a natural partner for Spiralcute. We look forward to working together to grow Chiikawa, Mofusand and Koupen Chan in Italy, creating new and meaningful opportunities for fans to discover and experience these very special brands.”
